The Green Chair

Well, I've got to say that the thought of moving is a bit overwhelming for me. I've never lived by myself, but I'm looking forward to it. The problem is, however, is that I am in love with designing things....

A new apartment is like a dream for someone like me. A completely blank slate. But how do I decorate that slate when I like sooo many things? It's a frequent occurrence that I'll be out and about and suddenly see an object that inspires me. It happens like a whirlwind in my mind- I can see a vision of the whole design. I can feel the aura of the space. A magical, free feeling which, no doubt, I want to recreate in my own home.

Now to choose....

Well, the living room came fairly easily. I found a vintage wingback chair that I am madly in love with. When I describe it to you, you're going to be tempted to stop reading immediately...but wait.... because while you see an old green velvet chair, I see something else. A low, comfy vintage chair barely used and awaiting just the right place. It's crushed green velvet fabric may once have been inspired by a horrible fashion trend, it now inspires a healing, restful environment. Accented with a deep complimentary red, the tone of the chair changes. And then I found it- the only throw pillow in the world that matches. Liberty of London at Target has produced some very vibrant patterns this spring, one of which will be nestled in my new living room. (I'm not sure how to post pictures just yet, but give me a day or two and I'll post one.)

So now the color scheme for my living room is set and I can move on from there. Time for the bedroom. Originally I envisioned a design steeped in reds, but I didn't love it. That's the thing about design.... you need to love it. When selecting furnishings and textiles, why not invest in what you love? Following your heart when designing a space is crucial. Be free to love your environment. If it doesn't make your heart pitter-patter, maybe you haven't found it yet. :) Good design should be like a vacation.... a backdrop for the most serene and exciting of life's events.

Look for my next post.... I'll tell you about the photo that I fell instantly in love with, permanently changing the design for my bedroom.
